The PC Muscle
PC muscle or pubococcygeus muscle is a hammock-like muscle that can be found in both men and women. It stretches from the pubic bone to the coccyx and supporting the pelvic organs. It controls urine flow, reduces premature ejaculation during sexual intercourse and contracts during orgasm. It also aids during childbirth. The same muscle permits men to move the penis up and down while it is in erect position.
Both men and women suffer from weak PC muscles making them to have frequent urination, lack of bladder control, and incontinence. Routine activities such as laughing, sneezing, or even exercising could trigger incontinence among women.
But there is a known solution for this weakening of the PC muscle, the Kegel exercise or the pelvic floor exercise. It is contracting or relaxing the muscles that form the pelvic floor.
Before performing Kegel exercise, one must know where to locate the PC muscle. Here are two tips in finding it.
1. Try to stop your urine when you are urinating. Do this several times until you clearly feel the muscle which stops you from urinating. This is the PC muscle.
2. You can also locate it by using your finger. For women, insert your finger to your vagina and in men in your anus and then squeeze the muscle. If there is pressure around your finger, then you have the PC muscle.
In the event that you have located the PC muscle do the following:
1. Start by emptying your bladder.
2. Tighten the pelvic floor muscles and hold for a count of 10.
3. Relax the muscle completely for a count of 10.
4. Do 10 exercises, 3 times a day (morning, afternoon, and night).
Women can do the Kegel exercise anytime and where they may be. This is possible while driving the car, sitting at the desk, or relaxing on a couch. Even pregnant women can do this exercise. Just always remember to breathe regularly while doing the Kegel exercise. Holding ones breath is not recommended. Repeat the same exercise thrice a day if possible.
Though a lot of women use Kegel exercise, men can also benefit from it. It can help men achieve stronger erections and achieve greater control over ejaculation. It is possible that strengthening this PC muscle would allow men to achieve orgasm without ejaculation, and thus reaching climax during sex.
After 4 to 6 weeks of constant exercise, you will notice an improvement. Just a warning, never over exercise as this will cause muscle fatigue and increase urine leakage.
